student G. Jones wins the SIAM UK-Ireland prize at BAMC 2006 for
one of the best postgraduate presentations. (April 2006)
OCIAM rejoices as
their young researcher Gareth Wyn Jones bested mathematics students
from around the UK to win the SIAM UK-Ireland prize. The prize is
awarded for the best post-graduate presentation
at the British Applied Mathematics Colloquium (BAMC)
which, in 2006, was held at Keele University.
Gareth's talk was titled ``Buckling of a spherical shell embedded in an elastic
matrix with a uniaxial stress field at infinity''. It summarised work that he
has done in collaboration with his supervisors Jon Chapman and David Allwright.
